This information shows how successful assessments are created and used in RTI from Dr. Deno, the nationally recognized developer of the Curriculum-Based Measurement (CBM) approach to progress monitoring that has been shown to validly and reliably index student growth in decoding, oral reading, and comprehension. When used within an RTI model, progress monitoring data become the basis for making decisions for RTI with progressively higher stakes. This information considers the technical characteristics at the heart of CBM probes that are used to make successful Universal Screening and program intervention (Tier placement) decisions within an RTI model.
